Historical Support

The United Way of Kent County is evolving its fundraising strategy to respond to changing needs in the community.

The United Way of Kent County has historically distributed funds to a network of local “partner agencies” that provide services related to health, education, financial stability, and community support. The exact list changes slightly by year, but examples of agencies and programs that have received support include:

Examples of Partner Agencies Supported by United Way of Kent County

  • For All Seasons – provides mental health counseling and school-based behavioral health services for youth and families.

  • Mid‑Shore Pro Bono – offers free legal services for low-income residents, including housing, family law, and consumer cases.

  • Kent County CARES Foundation – supports child abuse prevention, outreach, and family support services.

  • Echo Hill Outdoor School – provides outdoor education experiences for Kent County students through scholarships.

  • Open Doors Partners in Education – helps students and parents improve reading and literacy skills

While the organization has historically focused on raising funds to support programs in financial stability, health, and education, recent community assessments and rising cost-of-living pressures have highlighted food insecurity as an urgent issue for many Kent County residents. United Way’s mission remains centered on improving health, education, and financial stability, but the organization is increasingly prioritizing initiatives that ensure families have reliable access to nutritious food. United Way programs nationwide recognize that food insecurity affects not only hunger but also health outcomes, economic stability, and children’s ability to succeed in school. By strengthening partnerships with local food pantries, convening regional food organizations, and supporting coordinated food access efforts, United Way of Kent County is pivoting its fundraising and community investments toward food security to address immediate needs while building a healthier and more resilient community.
