Emergency Services

American Red Cross 

meets the crises which strike individuals and communities through emergency services and training in CPR, first aid and swimming. Financial, logistic, and support assistance is available to active military personnel and their families.  Services to Armed Forces may be obtained by calling 1-877-373-7337.

The Community Food Pantry

is experiencing greatly increased need for the non-perishable foods they provide to Kent County individuals and families who lack the means to purchase adequate food. Food is collected from available sources and funds are sought to purchase additional supplies.

Good Neighbor Fund / CVMA

is a totally volunteer organization which provides emergency funds for shelter when other help is unavailable, and provides funds for utilities, rent and medical supplies for those qualifying community members in critical need.  The Good Neighbor Fund is always in need of volunteers willing to commit to two hours a month in Chestertown.

Samaritan Group, Inc.

operates the County’s only winter shelter program for homeless individuals and families January through March with the help of local churches and the community.  People and families in need of temporary shelter are referred by the Department of Social Services and are provided with three meals and a warm place to sleep.  In April through December, they continue to assist people needing emergency housing or help with homelessness prevention through an outreach program in cooperation with other Kent County agencies.

Townsend Memorial Medical Clinic

Located in the Town Hall in Rock Hall, is the only free medical clinic in Kent County. Patients are served by a volunteer medical staff.  The Clinic pays for some testing and can refer patients to specialists if necessary.

Community Food Pantry

Fall 2013...The Community Food Pantry has published a new pamphlet, "Shop Smarter, Eat Better," outlining healthy food choices and how to recognize quality food and ingredients.  It introduces ChooseMyPlate.gov,  a website dedicated to healthy food choices.  The pamphlet contains shopping and cooking tips, budget hints and facts about the five food groups.
